This monthly newsletter is for people wondering just what the hell is up with the weird world (and odd business) of art, culture, and creativity.

The term heterochromia is derived from the ancient Greek terms héteros (“different”) and chrôma (“color”), which is pretty damn obvious for anybody with a passing familiarity with the concept of etymology. This is a newsletter about art, creativity, and culture, subjects that belong to the domain of color (in both the literal and figurative sense). But it is also a newsletter that covers those subjects from a heterodox viewpoint (I am an unconventional artist with unconventional—read, unpopular—thoughts about art and the business of creativity). Thus, Heterochromia. It’s a name that spells out what this newsletter sets out to do while also providing a not-so-subtle nod to a random characteristic of its creator. Perfect.

My mission with Heterochromia is to create a space where good ideas can flourish because, let’s face it, there are plenty of bad ones in the world of arts and culture. If you’re like me and believe those bad ideas have become the norm in the places that matter the most, then you’ll find a welcome home here. If not, well, there are plenty of other places you can go to read incoherent musings from people you think you agree with. This newsletter is meant to be challenging, both for myself and those who choose to support it. It may be uncomfortable to read at times—but facing discomfort is how we grow. And I, for one, would rather work through the pain than suffer the indignities brought upon by ignoring the problems we face.
